meet the LARK
Throughout history, larks and skylarks have been a bridge between earth and sky, matter and spirit, darkness and awakening.
Because it sings while ascending, the lark greets the first light of day.
The lark is the first voice, the leader, the tone setter.
Announcing what is new, this bird is “the herald of joy” symbolizing dawn, awakening, praise, hope and rising toward the divine.
In Ancient Greece, the lark was associated with Apollo, god of light, music, and prophecy.
In Ancient Rome, those in power saw the lark as a sign of good fortune and favorable beginnings.
In medieval times, the lark symbolized joyful praise, inspiring saints and theologians.
In Celtic Folklore, larks could lift melancholy, break enchantments, and signaled the return of life after winter.
“Twas the lark, the herald of the morn”
— WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
